I listened in to the School and Service Meeting last week through the phone connection because I wanted to hear the "Gilead" letter, and what they had to say about it. Trust me... I was having a hard time sitting still in my own living room! What is it about those fraking meetings... the monotone instructor who just rambles... the mindless comments?!! The longer I'm away, the more sensitive my BS-Detector gets. How can anyone sit still while the BS-alarm is going off in one's mind and heart?

Sitting Still at Meetings has Become an Impossibility
by venusinfauxfurs insince i know the truth about jw, and still have to go to meetings for family reasons (and because i don't want to leave my friends, either) i get so sick in my chair in the hall.
i can't pay attention, i can't sit still knowing it's all such a waste of time and a big fat lie.
i get weird symptoms like: the feeling that i'm going to almost pass out, very sweaty or very cold, and weak legs though i'm sitting down, and the urge to get up and run away.

How many double agents are there?
by logical1 inhow many are there on this board that are also still in the society, especially acting in a position of leadership?
i think it's pretty funny they always talked about how "jehovah would root out the wickedness" yet theres people on here getting invites to "zone visits" that many other blind and faithful people weren't invited to.. .
if any of you are on your way out and have the ability to give a talk before you go, you should cratifly morph a talk into discussion about the origins of the society, by the time its obvious what you're doing you will have given 100-150 people seeds of doubt before they yank you off the stage, and the fact that they would be physically escorting you off the stage when you were simply talking about the "founder" of the society should be alarming and suspicious enough to those watching.. .

I believe there are many, MANY double-agents here.
Me and a buddy recently discussed actually getting "reactivated" again by going out in service; except we would just work together. At our doors, we would share the real truth about the WT. It was actually kind of fun to imagine doing so... and I must admit, it's mighty tempting.
The only problem is: I finally have reached the point in my "fade-out" that the elders have totally left me alone. Getting reactivated would put me back at square-one again... and it would give them all hope that I've been redeemed. As I refaded, the relentless phone calls and emails would start all over. I just am not sure I want to go through all that again.
But wouldn't it be great to go door-to-door again, teaching people the real truth about the WT! Would love to see the looks on peoples faces!
Although, the talk by littletoe was truly inspirational. I saved it and love to listen to it. That almost makes me want to become a MS again, just so I can go out in a blaze of glory. I just don't think I can stomach the hypocrisy and politics a second time. Stepping down as an elder was such a wonderful feeling!

Heard that "Never Know" by Jack Johnson was about the Witnesses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j6ZEOXoNvw
Never Know - Jack Johnson (Album: In Between Dreams)
i heard this old story before
if people keep appealing for the metaphors
don't leave much up to the imaginationso i wanna give this imagery back
but i know it just ain't so easy like that
so, i turn the page and read the story again
and again and againit just seems the same
with a different name
we're breaking and rebuilding
and we're growing
always guessingnever knowing
shocking but we're nothing
we're just moments
we're clever but we're clueless
we're just human
amusing and confusing
we're trying
but where is this all leading
we'll never knowit all happened so much faster
than you could say disaster
wanna take a time lapse
and look at it backwards
from the last one
and maybe that's just the answer
that we're after but after all
we're just a bubble in a boiling pot
just one breath in a chain of thought
the moments just combusting
feel certain but we'll never never know
just seems the same
give it a different name
we're begging and we're needing
and we're trying and we're breathingnever knowing
shocking but we're nothing
we're just moments
we're clever but we're clueless
we're just human
amusing and confusing
we're helping
we're building and we're growing
we'll never knowknock-knock on the door to door
tell ya that the metaphor is better than yours
and you can either sink or swim
things are looking pretty grim
if you don't believe in what this one feeding
it's got no feeling
so i read it again
and again and again
just seems the same
so many different names
our hearts are strong
our hands are weak
we'll always be competingnever knowing
shocking but we're nothing
we're just moments
we're clever but we're clueless
we're just human
amusing, confusing
but the truth is
all we got is questions
we'll never know -

How to convince someone to question the authority of the WT
by LanaMich19 ini have someone in my family that is a jw and she has engaged me in conversation.
for the record, i consider myself an evangelical christian.
after some debate and research, i backed out of a verse by verse debate and switched the convo to get on some common ground, asking if she believe the bible was the inspired word of god.

Hi Lana! If she enjoys in-depth discussions, then take her to Luke 21:8. This was the clincher for me. We had a great discussion/thread on this scripture a few days ago. Take a look and see if it will help:

Let us know how it goes! Best wishes!

Is Job 1:4 regarding a birthday party
by jwfacts ini have heard it stated before that job 1:4 is referring to job celebrating his children's birthdays.
others have claimed this is not the case.
does anyone have a good explanation of what this scripture is referring to?.

ScenicViewer... Wow... I love that quote! That's perfect! Also enjoy the humor and logic:
"The number of birthday celebrations where someone is beheaded have gotten to be in the minority; at least where I live."
Thank you... I'm using it!

Interesting experience last night...
Was with a couple of wonderful friends who are still active. I laughed and said, "Well, doesn't look like the world ended." They laughed and started talking about Harold Camping. One said Camping was just one of these cult freaks.
I laughed and said "Careful now... we've made a few bad date predictions too! He could always take a play from our book and say he received new light."
Immediately there was about a minute of awkward silence... then they changed the subject.
Just got to love it when the pot's calling the kettle black.

Luke 21:8 - Who Should We Really Avoid?
by Darth Rutherford inluke 21:8 - who should we really avoid?.
in his sign of the last days, jesus warned his followers: look out that you are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, i am he, and, the due time has approached.
(luke 21:8) jesus provides clues that help us identify who to avoid.

maksym... I am a multi-generation Witness with a pedigree dating back to the late 1800's-early 1900's. My father and mother taught me to think on my own, and my grandfather taught me that the ring of truth in God's Word always will be crystal clear. Combine the two... and that makes me a danger to the WT. I am a natural skeptic, which caused me to see many things that "just weren't right" as an elder. I finally did what the WT always suggests... read my Bible. I read it unfiltered - no publications to tell me how to think - and I was astounded by what I discovered. Thank you WT for telling me to read my Bible! I'm finally learning the truth now!
When I came across Luke 21:8, I was really knocked out. How did I not see this over the decades? I've prayed and prayed and prayed over it, reseached it, and used the logic and reasoning that my family taught me, and came to one simple conclusion. There are some things the WT teaches that is correct - when it's truly based on God's Word and they don't twist it around. However, the same can be said for other denominations. Truth is truth when based on God's Word, no matter who teaches it. Again, that's why the WT looks so authentic. However, to take hold of the skirt of this organization puts one in conflict with Jesus Christ's words at Luke 21:8.
We're either going to be disciples of Jesus or disciples of an organization that's constantly changing what "truth" is. It's a no-brainer for me, but each must make their own choice. This essay is not just an indictment against the WT alone, but against all denominations who are making similiar claims. We don't know when Christ is returning, and we're not supposed to know or worry about it. It will come when it comes. In the meantime, we're to live Christian lives, and show love for one another and our neighbor. Living such a life will speak a greater witness than knocking on "not at homes" every Saturday morning. When Christ returns, if it's in our lifetime, well, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I'm sure he'll give us clear direction what to do then... and he won't be changing what truth is every few years.
Ucantnome... great point. If his coming will affect all humanity, and all humans will be judged by it, why would it remain invisible? Faith is based on an evident demonstration- clear convincing evidence. (Heb 11:1) During that judgment period, every person on earth will make a decision that affects their life, a decision that will have to be based on this clear evidence. Such must, therefore, be evident and visible - something tangible - to give them faith. A visible sign would have to be necessary... and the sign needs to be more than a knock at the door early in the morning by a person giving a half-hearted presentation to accept a magazine or book. Think about it... If the angels visibly sang when Christ was born on earth, why wouldn't they be visible when he returns as King to judge the earth? (Luke 2:13; Matthew 25:31)
Most people don't think and reason anymore. They are shallow. Jehovah's Witnesses are incredibly shallow. They don't read their entire Bible, but only the specific verses they're told to look up. They don't even know about their own organization! Yes, logic is an untaught foreign language to most people around the globe, thus the masses have been lulled to sleep mentally... and spiritually. Ripe for the taking!
I wrote this short essay as an indictment to all Christian denominations. Please, my friends, if you believe it worthy to be shared, please copy, paste, print, email, whatever you deem necessary, and share it with every Jehovah's Witness you know and any other professed Christian out there. Take the passive-aggressive approach... Tell them you've read something, and have questions about it, and you need them to explain it to you. That's all it takes! Once they read it, you're work is done!
Attacking the GB and WT headquarters at the top won't work. Don't send it to the branches. Don't send it to the pioneer or elder. Send it to the people... the ordinary publisher. Shaking the bottom of the ladder will eventually knock the person at the top off balance! The people are the bread and butter to this organization. Let's turn it around on them... Plant a seed of real truth... let US do the knocking this time! Knock on their email "door"... leave them some literature for a change. Print it in the papers... in the blogs... wherever!

Panic Attacks
by trailerfitter inhi, i was reading on here a while ago that some of you guys and girls suffer from panic attacks.
how common is this in the jws?
the wife had a bible study today and i was sort of listening looking for a discussion point.

Panic attacks are definitely common. Had them as a publisher, ministerial servant, and elder. Could feel my heart racing with anxiety just going to the KH. The congregation is a pressure cooker. People are constantly judging you, and you are constantly reminded of the need to do more for Jehovah or He'll be displeased, and that soon everything you have and/or love will be taken away in the Great Tribulation... oh, and that you may or may not survive Armageddon.
I know so many on medication. Terrible self esteem issues... because if you think more of yourself than is necessary, then you are being selfish. If you think differently than others, then you may be turning apostate... or if you say something wrong, will others suspect you're an apostate?
I'm getting all flustered just thinking about it again. I haven't been to a meeting in months... and I don't miss it. Actually, I enjoy my Thursday evenings and Sunday's now!

Listener... yes, the Witnesses apply this part of Luke 21:8 to the first century prior to the destruction of Jerusalem by Rome. They believe that Jesus sign had a first century fulfillment for Jerusalem, but also a modern-day fulfillment since 1914 (when Christ was made King of God's Kingdom). However, they conveniently forget to include Luke 21:8 in the modern day fulfillment. Actually, in the Watchtower library, you'll find very, very, very little mentioned about Luke 21:8... and of the few references used... it's always in reference to the first century.
